ENTER TO WIN: The Britax Marathon 70 (Plus Review)

Recently Britax, a leader in the car seat industry, overhauled their popular convertible car seat line. They have released a series of new seats that incorporate higher weight limits, especially for the rear-facing position, and brand new car seat safety technology. All seats now offer a rear-facing limit of 40 pounds and the Marathon, Boulevard and Advocate have a forward facing limit of a whopping 70 pounds. I recently received a brand new Marathon 70 from Britax to test out with my daughter who is now ready to move out of her infant seat. Hopefully I will never have to put it to a true test under crash conditions, but with this new seat, its new Safe Cell technology and other improvements, I know that she is as safe as she can possibly be.

My 2 year old is currently riding in the previous Marathon model and we have loved knowing that he is safe, comfortable and has plenty of room to grow. With the new higher rear facing weight limit of 40 pounds, we can leave my daughter rear facing way past age one if we want. Her 2 oldest brothers were at the rear facing limits on their seats by the time they hit one, but it’s great to know that she will not have to be turned around until we want her facing forward. The Marathon 70 offers all of the same great features that has earned it a spot as a favorite car seat for many, many families, including ours. The full range of features include built-in Lock-offs, premium lower LATCH connectors, Tangle-Free, Five-Point Harness, a cover that is easy to remove for cleaning without taking the seat out of the car, Harness Ultra Guard System (HUGS™) , High Density Comfort Foam and side-impact protection. There is also a quick-adjust harness that repositions the harness height without having to take the straps apart, which is a great feature.

This new Marathon 70 adds SafeCell™ Technology, Integrated Steel Bars and an energy-absorbing Versa-Tether. Safe Cell Technology adds SafeCells which compress in a crash, lowering the center of gravity and counteracting forward rotation to prevent the child from being propelled towards the front seat. The Integrated Steels bars reduce forward flexion of the seat by strengthening its connection to the car. The Versa-Tether is a staged-release tether webbing which slows forward movement and a two-point attachment which minimizes forward rotation. All of these features work together to offer 360 degree protection for your child. This video explains the “physics” of the new safety features in very simple terms, so you can see how great it is, without putting it to the test for yourself.

This is a great car seat and I love knowing all of that safety technology is in our car. These most important features are the ones the we all hope we will never have to test for ourselves, but knowing that they are there priceless. The features you can test out on a daily basis- ease of use and comfort for your child- are really impressive as well. The seat is easy to install, especially with the LATCH connectors. The added technology doesn’t seem to have made the seat any heavier. In fact, I was surprised at how light it felt. It’s quite easy to carry. One of my favorite Britax features is that the harness really is tangle free. I can’t tell you how much time I’ve spent detangling straps on my eldest’s convertible booster, especially fun when it’s 115 degrees in the car. It drives me insane, but I never have that problem with the Britax straps. They are easy on and off every time. Another favorite is the easy height adjustability of the harness. No threading and rethreading of the straps, you just pop it up and down using a handle on the top of the seat. It’s very easy to get the height exactly where you need and readjust as they grow. You can see a full demonstration of the features available in the full line of Britax convertible car seats here, in this video from Britax.

My daughter loves her new Marathon 70. She is very happy in her big girl seat and seems very comfortable. I love how easy it is to use and knowing how safe she is. This is amazing new technology in an already terrific car seat. I can’t say enough good things about it. The Britax Marathon 70 is available in 7 fabric options and retails for $279.99.

We really encourage you all to visit the YouTube video and leave a comment talking about what you learned from it!
