And Just Like That – I’m Back On Weight Watchers

There’s no marinading in anything for me. I’m the type of girl who wants to do something and then does it. Talk about impulse problems!!

But I feel this was the right decision for me. I went to sign up with Weight Watchers this morning (as I wrote earlier) and ended up sitting in for my first meeting.

The new program is different! I did Weight Watchers in 2005 and lost about 20 pounds on it after I had Natalie. Bill did WW two years ago and lost 65 POUNDS on it. He also worked out a lot though. His significant loss was due to both.

Im not so much an exercise girl. I WANTED to swim as exercise and joined a gym with a pool… but then my hair dresser told me my hair would turn green and there went that plan!

I still feel good about my body. I have curves where I need curves and can still rock a kick a%% dress, but I’m thinking too much about my weight. And I don’t like to waste so much energy on something so negative.

So instead of me beating myself up over 9 pounds, I’m going to SHUT UP AND ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

It worked for me the last time. Almost like a light switch went on. I got it. This was what I needed to do and it is once again.  Of course Christmas isn’t helping me. I already know what I am cooking for the holiday and it isn’t going to be good for my weigh in. Im not going to stress out about it though. I’ll just start back up the next day.

So, let’s talk about the new PointsPlus Weight Watchers Plan. It’s different and a bit deceptive at first. I was allotted 29 points a day which at first I thought was AWESOME because with the old plan I only had 20 points.

Then we were given 49 points to use at our leisure throughout the week on TOP of the 29. I was like – WHAT?????

BUT – my Starbucks BTL (because you KNOW that was the first thing I looked up) is now 5 points instead of 3. And those snack bars that I used to love are now 3 points instead of 1. Soooooo – it probably balances out the same way – just different calculations.

Here’s the kicker – all fruits and most vegetables are ZERO POINTS. This is  HUGE!!! A banana used to be 2 points and even though I was eating something healthy I would have to mark it down and it used to make me SO PISSED. Now it’s FREE!!! That is insane. I’m super excited about it.

You will be hearing about my journey over the next few weeks. I’m not going to stop drinking my tea, so it might take me longer to lose the weight, but I don’t care. At least I know I am doing something about it instead of just living in this dark cloud.

First steps are the hardest… : )

Damn those skinny jeans – they haven’t gotten the best of me. They’ll see…

  1. Congratulations! I have heard such wonderful things about the new plan! I can’t wait to hear how quickly those 9 pounds come off!

  2. Good for you Vera! I have doing WW since October and I am down 10 lbs. It is less than I expected (about 1 lb per week) but I am down, so no complaints. I was a bit resistant to the points plus since I had just learned the old points system but I am coming around. I love that fruits are 0 zero points because now I am more likely to grab a fruit than a 100 calorie pack. On the old system a banana and a 100 cal pack were the same points so why not eat the cookies, right? Not all vegetables are 0, potatoes, corn and other starchy veges still have points and now avacados do too. Good luck, I look forward to hearing about your progress!

  3. That is so exciting! Best of Luck with this 🙂 I can’t wait to read all about your journey with a those stubborn 9 pounds. I love my coffee every day, too.. I can’t imagine giving it up

  4. Please keep us updated on how the new system works. I was a HUGE fan (no pun intended) of the plan in action about 7 years ago. I’m considering joining in the spring after doing a lot of work on my own. Who knows! I think you will take your 9lbs off in no time.

  5. hi vera, my old trainer sent this out today. sound advice, i think:

“There are a few things you can do to make sure you don’t end up looking like a bean bag with arms and legs……

Consume 5 grams of fish oil (omega 3) after each meal/feeding. Fish oil has been shown to lower the insulin spike you get when you consume carbohydrate based food (which is basically everything you eat at Christmas apart from the turkey!). As well as this omega 3 has been shown to switch on the lypolytic (fat burning) gene and switch off the lipogenic (fat storing) gene. Basically it’s a bit of a ninja when it comes to fat loss.

NOTE: It should be noted that you get what you pay for when it comes to supplements. In terms of fish oil, cheap fish oils will almost always have high levels of PCBs and heavy metals, notably mercury. The only fish oils I recommend with confidence are Poliquin Fish Oils and Eskimo 3 Fish Oils. Don’t waste your money or compromise your health by buying anything else.

In terms of training don’t make the common mistake of flouncing your way through December. Train hard until right up to Christmas Eve and get back down the gym Boxing Day or the day after. This in itself will go a long way to minimizing any Christmas damage.

In terms of what you eat, traditionally Christmas food is an insulin spiking nightmare. However you can tip toe around certain foods. For instance salmon and eggs for breakfast is a great way to start the day. When it comes to Christmas dinner ask for more turkey and vegetables and less or none of potatoes, Christmas pudding etc. If you graze throughout the day then do so on meats rather than sweets (I may trademark that saying!).

Alcohol. OK so one of the biggest minefields is the amount of alcohol normally consumed on and around Christmas. Not only will it make you dance questionably at your office party but it’s also a lot of empty calories. Calories with no nutritional value. Avoidance is the best option, although if that’s not possible a couple of glasses of Rioja aren’t going to hurt.

Hope all that helps. Remember as I said don’t beat yourself up over it. 90% of food should be for your health. 10% for your soul. Treat it as a treat day and get back on the wagon the day after and you’ll be fine.”

  6. Thanks guys!! I’m really excited. I had a banana as a snack today and I was so happy because I didn’t have to mark it down.

  7. Congratulations! The most BRILLIANT people go back to Weight Watchers when they only have a small amount to lose! I’m so happy for you! 🙂 You will rock it!

  8. It took me 6 mos. (this time at WW) to lose 10 lbs. I went MUCH faster my first time at WW. Sometimes it is better to go slow so you don’t feel so deprived.

  9. Good for you! I rejoined WW about 3 weeks ago and so far so good – I too was really shocked with the new amount of points; I thought, “No way can you lose weight and eat this much.” Since we eat really healthy in my house (low but healthy natural fats, high protein, lots of whole grains and fresh vegetables and fruits) I end up getting more bang for the proverbial buck on this new plan – I kept thinking – there’s no way I’m going to lose weight eating this much but I have. My problem has always been portion control – so, while I eat the same healthy foods I’m just eating a significantly smaller portion!

Here’s to hoping you lose the weight fast!
