Extreme couponing. It’s the new catch phrase that’s hitting the television market like MAD. I was watching Dr. Phil on Oprah’s OWN channel and he had an entire episode dedicated to people who are saving big while cutting coupons. Some of their tips were a bit severe, but I took what I wanted to from the episode and applied it to my own life.
I actually enjoy cutting coupons and finding a good deal, so I started to put more effort into it. I’ve been tracking some of my purchases here.
Just in case you haven’t heard about extreme couponing, I thought I’d give you a quick rundown!! If you want to take this journey with me, start saving your inserts from your Sunday paper. You need them ALL.
WHAT IS EXTREME COUPONING?
To REALLY get into extreme couponing, you have to be willing to store items for a rainy day. You don’t buy shampoo when you NEED shampoo. You buy it when it’s on sale and then you stock up. That’s the point. In theory, if you buy shampoo with a coupon, you are doing a good thing. BUT if you buy shampoo with a coupon during a week when it’s buy 1 get 1 free — you are REALLY saving.
Timing is everything. You have to be patient and you have to work a little at getting organized.
EXTREME COUPONING ORGANIZATION:
Yesterday I went to Staples and purchased one of their “HUGE” binders. They are three times the size of a regular binder. I also picked up a pair of small scissors, a coupon plastic envelope, a hole puncher, a pad and a black marker. Staples’ HUGE binder has inside pockets so you can keep everything together.
EXTREME COUPONING TIME COMMITMENT:
To really get the true benefit of extreme couponing, you have to spend a little time looking through the circulars. Truthfully, it took me about an hour to work through CVS and Target. HOWEVER, the good news is there are PLENTY of sites that will do this for you. These women DO THE CIRCULARS so you don’t have to! I know a coupon blogger who pays $75 to someone just so they can write up those posts for her. They take a LONG time. Why not use the sites and save yourself the effort? I did it because I wanted to understand the process a bit. Moving forward, I am going to lean on coupon bloggers for the flyer breakdowns. But truth be told, I did have fun searching out my extreme couponing deals.
LETTING GO OF BRAND LOYALTY WHILE EXTREME COUPONING:
Here’s the part that my husband is NOT going to be happy with. If you truly want to be successful with extreme couponing, you have to let go of your brand loyalty. I’m not saying you can’t continue to buy your favorite coffee beans or yogurt. If you TRULY LOVE IT – then of COURSE stick with it. HOWEVER, every other product has to now be opened to sales and coupons.
So, no more staples. CVS had a sale on Wisk this week. I bought it last night during my 10PM run. I got 2 Wisk HE detergents (32 loads) for $10 but then I also incorporated 2 $1 off coupons. In the end, I paid $4 each. If you look at the green box, you can save even more by purchasing $25 worth of items. CVS will give you $10 in extra bucks that you can use during your next purchase. This is how it begins to add up. So, why not buy 4 Wisks and some paper towels (with another coupon) and then get that $10 bucks for FREE. In the end, the second set of Wisk bottles were FREE because they gave you $10 towards a future purchase.
EXTREME COUPONING TIPS:
I can be a bit manic, so extreme couponing can get dangerous for me. I might one day come home with 56 tubes of Polident just because it was on sale! So, I’m taking deep breaths and I am TRULY only buying things that we need.
EXTREME COUPONING Tip 1: Don’t purchase things JUST BECAUSE they are on sale.
- I’m not going to start buying potato chips because I can get them for a true bargain. That would defeat the purpose because then I will be spending more money than I would have if I was just shopping like a regular consumer.
EXTREME COUPONING Tip 2: Be smart about the timing of things.
- We didn’t particularly NEED dish soap, but CVS was having a sale on Palmolive and I got 2 for free and one for $.49 because I used the right coupons during the right time. YES – I got 3 bottles of dish soap for $.49 – all because I was careful about when I used the coupons.
EXTREME COUPONING Tip 3: Don’t clip coupons out of the flyers when you get them.
- Instead of making yourself a HUGE piles of coupons that you have to sort through, keep the coupons in their pamphlet form and punch holes in the paper. Store everything in your binder. This way you can easily flip through your coupons and cut them out when needed. Remove pages that have items you would NEVER EVER BUY – for me that was diapers, cover up, senior citizen items etc.
EXTREME COUPONING Tip 4: Shop AROUND
Here’s the thing with extreme couponing – you can’t put all your eggs in one basket. You have to be able to go to a few stores to really see results. I’m not saying I’m going to drive to another town to find a Pathmark, but I am saying that I will hit up Walgreens, CVS and Target once a week if I get a big enough bargain on an item my family uses.
Every store has sales that are meant to draw customers in with the hopes that they will purchase other items. Well, that’s for the rest of the world. Don’t get suckered into full priced items just because you happened to be walking around Stop and Shop!! Buy what’s on sale and then go home. Everything will eventually be marked down. There’s no point in wasting your money – especially in this economy.
PHEW!! How was that? Not too painful right? Do what you can and save where it’s possible. That’s all I’m saying.
Let’s save together in 2011. That’s my mission. I want to see how much I can save by the end of the year. Again, if you want to play along, start saving those coupons from the newspaper. There are also a ton of sites where you can print coupons — here’s one to get you started. And please check my Extreme Couponing section so you can see what I buy each week from CVS.
UPDATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
I wanted to add a few more extreme couponing tips because so many people are trying to get started.
Where Do You Get Coupons from?
I buy 4 newspapers a week in order to clip coupons. I just started to do this a few weeks ago because I wanted to take advantage of multiple deals at once. When you only get one newspaper, you are limited to just one coupon. I spend about $2.50 on each newspaper, so that’s a $10 expense. BUT WORTH IT!
I get Newsday because I found it’s the best one available by me for extreme couponing.
Other Places To Get Coupons:
- Ask your neighbors to save them for you
- eBay
- Drive around on recycle day and grab them – as per Extreme Couponing Show – I wouldn’t really do this
- Dumpster Dive – as per Extreme Couponing Show – I wouldn’t really do this
- Write to the company and request them
- Facebook Fan companies and wait for them to offer some
- The INTERNET! Once a day I post links to all the hottest coupons online. Yes, I do all the hard work for you.
- Each store has store coupons specific just to their brand. Visit each individual site OR get their flyer.
- Mobile Coupons – stores also offer mobile coupons and sits like CellFire and ShopKick have some as well
- There are also coupon clipping services that are available. For example, if you want 100 Vitamin Water coupons, you can BUY them online. Handling fees are required.
Are those reality shows realistic? How do they save THAT MUCH MONEY?
Is it possible? Yes, it’s possible. HOWEVER, these people are extreme. Get it! They spend 40 hours a week planning trips like that and most admit that those $1000 for $.67 trips are a once in a lifetime sort of thing. Don’t aspire for that. Are you willing to give up your entire basement for some BBQ sauce?
Also NOTICE what they are buying. Do you really want 87 jars of honey mustard? Not really! Couponing for your family should never be THAT extreme.
It also really depends on where you live!! I live in NY and you better believe that those sort of deals don’t EXIST. Sure, I can get my bill down to HALF – and when I do, I’m jumping up and down. But it’s an $88 dollar bill brought down to around $40. NOT $800 down to $.50!! Be realistic. Don’t get disappointed if you don’t reach their level. You aren’t spending the 40 hours a week that they are. Remember that.
How can I start stockpiling?
You just do. As you can see, my stockpile focus mainly on cleaning and beauty supplies. I really don’t do food except when the pasta coupons come out because you can always get that for free. Here is my mini stock pile. I don’t want it to take over my life. I want to save money for my family. When I see a good deal – I go for it! I don’t compare myself to anyone. I just try as hard as I can to save for my family. This also includes my extended family. My mother always comes over and gets stuff for her and my grandmother. Spread the love if you start doing this. Everyone can use the help.
For example, last week Wisk was on sale at Stop and Shop for $3.99. I had a $2 off coupon. Well, I had 4 of them since I get 4 newspapers. I went and I got them. Did I need detergent? NO! But for $1.99 – you better believe I’m going to buy it. Did I get it for FREE or did I make money on the sale? Was it truly extreme couponing? No. But I’m still happy with my bargain.
This stockpile was accumulated over 10 months. I buy about $40-70 worth of goods a week and spend under $5 for them. Slow and steady.
Which Stores Should I Use My Coupons In?
All of them. I will go to Walmart to buy 1 deal and then run to CVS to get another. I watch all sales. You can’t go to just one place anymore. If you really want to save, you have to go to where the sale is. Luckily, I live in a town that has EVERY STORE ON THE PLANET. Seriously. We have three MEGA MALLS within a mile from each other. It’s insane. So, it’s no big deal for me to head around and shop in different places.
Don’t go crazy and drive 50 miles for a sale. You have to count GAS in all of this.
Every Week I End Up Throwing Away So Many Unused Coupons!
Me too. I only use coupons when they are paired with a sale and really make sense. I used to be so upset about throwing them out – but now I realize it’s just part of the game.
And just a heads up, I heard there are government sites that actually take EXPIRED COUPONS for soldiers! I’ve been meaning to look this up because that is SO WONDERFUL.
But I Really Want To Coupon Like The People On Extreme Couponing!!!
I can’t help you with that. All I can do is show you every day what sales I think are worth your time. I hope you won’t get discouraged because it really IS worth your time. Saving money is ALWAYS worth your time.

I need to seriously start clipping coupons and saving money in this department. Congrats on the new site! How do you manage it all???
at 9:27 am
I’m pretty good with coupons, but tip #3 was a new one for me, and very helpful. I often reject some coupons, only to think weeks later “dang, why didn’t I clip that one?”
at 9:43 am
I wish I had the time and devotion to actually coupon but I guess it’s not high on my priorities and would take time from other things. I do use coupons that I get from the companies or pick up here and there but can’t bring myself to do any more than that. Kudos to you mommas who do though, sometimes I envy you all!

What a meaty post Vera! Great info of which I am in need of – Thanks and passing this link on to friends and family!

One of my private New Years resolutions was to quit being scared of coupons and slowly start on them this year!
Great tips… I’m going to start working on them this weekend, already saved last weeks coupons.
Here’s hoping I can save some money! We’ve got 7 kids and this will help us save up and still send things to college with the oldest when she needs them!!
at 4:34 pm
7 kids! dang! ever heard of birth control, girl?!
at 4:35 pm
forgot to say, great info, thanks!!

J.C, you will find that some of the BEST couponers ARE those of us with children. I have 6 children, am a widow (with 3 at 24) then divorced (with 3 more at 30) and have raised them all alone on getting my degree, working full time, and LONG ago learning the true value of a coupon! Im sad to admit i have a LONG way to learn to compete with so many out there but it IS a goal. I have one in college, one in the Army, and 4 at home and I pay my bills. Just because we have multiple children doesnt make us BAD, maybe it has educated us in areas others cant relate to? At least Im not using your taxpayers money (assuming you work) to be on foodstamps. I “cut” my own way with coupons and its a game for the kids!! PROUD OF IT!! AND of them!

High five you ladies with more than one kid!

High Five from me too.
You sure have a lot to be proud of!!

Myob, did anyone ask for your opinion?
at 11:12 am
Thanks for the tips. I have never understood the real value of coupons but I have to admit that I definitely can see the point now! can’t wait to try it out!
at 1:30 pm
I am SUCH the coupon Czarina that the cashiers at the stores I frequent bow and roll out the red carpet (in the self-check so they don’t have to deal with me, ha ha). I have four kids. One of whom is a 17 year old boy/jock/actor/musician who eats like he is a small principality himself. Back before my coupon epiphany I spent on average $300 weekly on food, sundries and household supplies. Now if I spend $150 every two weeks it’s an indicator that either I got lazy with the coupons or found a fab new pair of boots that begged to come home with me. I actually teach classes on coupon use at a local family shelter. If you have.. give.
at 7:05 pm
I need help! I am a beginner at all of this couponing any great sites to check out or anything?
at 12:04 am
Two great sites are couponmom.com and Hunt4freebies.com. I love couponmom.com because they do a lot of the hunting for you. They put together a list of the drug store deals and supermarket deals and let you know what coupons from what sunday paper insert to use to maximize your savings (providing you have been saving your coupon inserts). Also, Couponmom.com have links to the major online coupon sites like Coupons.com. Hunt4freebies.com is one site that I recently have started to really get into. They have all sorts of freebies and they also have coupon links as well to the manufacturer websites and manufacturer Facebook pages that have coupons and offers. Like I said, I have really gotten into Hunt4freebies.com in the past month and I am currently waiting on free paint from Glidden, free Cottenelle wipes, hair color, deodorant and other free stuff that I can’t recall. I check Hunt4freebies.com daily because new offers/coupons are added every day. Also, Hunt4freebies.com list what coupons from what sunday insert (Smartsource, Redplum, Proctor&Gamble, etc) down to the actual coupon and face value of the coupon. So for a particular week, if the coupons are not what you need……you know not to buy the paper that week. In addition, Dollartree stores sell the sunday papers for $.75-$1.00. What I have found is that their papers do not always have the number of inserts listed on Hunt4freebies.com. Hope this helps.

Good luck with your new site, Vera and Audrey! (I feel like I say that a lot to you two!) And, for the record, I am not sharing this with my husband because I have a lot of other budgeting things to get together before I start extreme couponing.
at 3:30 pm
This post is so inspiring! I have been meaning to start using coupons, and this post has motivated me to try! I hope it works!!!
at 3:51 pm
I love that you are doing this! Couponing is fun….I did a budget bootcamp in 2010 where I learned all the ins and outs of making the most of using coupons. It’s an art, but I love it when you can work the system!
at 7:38 pm
what is a budget bookcamp, and where can I find one in VA?
at 2:13 pm
I’m glad to hear I don’t have to do all that research myself. Wow!
I already bought a binder and some inserts for holding all my coupons. Hope I can get on the ball this year.
at 10:28 pm

hello.. i am very new to couponing.. But i love the idea.. having a heard time palnning out where to start… i have five ppl in my family and i could use some tips
at 3:57 pm
So I had a question about coupons. I watched some of the extreme couponing last night. My question is I saw where they used multiple coupons for an item, how is that possible when most coupons say one coupon per purchase. Yet on this program they had several of one item and handed them tons of the same coupon for the item. I don’t understand, I am confused. Can you shed some light?
Linda
at 1:00 am
I’m totally confused as well! One coupon per person per item…. Help???
at 6:14 pm
me too! please explain how do you use multiple coupons on 1 item, never seen a coupon that does NOT say you can only use 1 coupon per person per item!
at 10:42 pm
If I understand it right that means You can only use 1 coupon on 1 item… so if you have say 10 items you have to have 10 coupons one for each. And the 1 person means someone else can’t also use that coupon.
at 3:26 pm
Keep in my mind that a lot of stores will allow you to stack coupons. This is to say that you can use a manufacturer coupon and a store coupon on the same item. Example: If Walgreens has Dial soap on sale for $2 you can use a manufacturer coupon for $1 off and a store coupon for $0.50 off and get the item for $0.50.
That is the only way that I know that you can use more than one coupon on the same item. Hope this helps
at 3:37 pm
I have tried going online to print coupons, but only get these long drawn out questionairres and then when I get to the end and select “print coupons” I do not get any to print. All the questionaires are burdensome and time consuming. Is there any sites that you can just go to to get coupons???
at 8:10 pm
It really depends on the site you go to. For example, target coupons are super easy – just click and print!
http://coupons.target.com/mcp/pd.cfm?encp=bw3Edh8NsU3vzmfu%2BCqxk1gE5kAdfbx6dC45DH8m6FuvNQDwYVl3xOH31DkRj79yzb%2BSNmiA403Uk0Vud5AkAA%3D%3D
at 3:51 pm
i have been useing a website called coupons.com and couponmom.com.
at 7:44 am
Honestly – the places by me don’t allow me to give double coupons for the same item. I dont understand how some places do and others dont. I do it as you think – one coupon per item. And I still do alright. I video what I do each week so you can see. Im away right now but am heading home tonight. Tomorrow I am going to go to CVS and then make a video to show you what steals I found. SAVE ALL YOUR COUPONS FROM THE WEEKEND!! Trust me it’s worth it!!!
AND MICHELLE — I link out once a week to the right coupons to print. When I get home I will do that as well.
Dont do anything for surveys. They seem like scams. Only from actual sites (like tide.com etc)
at 5:18 pm
I am so ready to start saving money! Thank you for all the tips. My only problem is i dont really get the math, i understood the example you gave with wisk but the hand soap that was another thing. But I am more of a visual learner then anything, so maybe you can show us how you do the math in a black and white kind of way.
Thank you for you time it so wonderful that you are doing this : )
at 7:57 am
Every week I do a video showing what I did and how I saved – keep checking back. I try to explain it step by step because I know it can be a bit overwhelming. It’s a lot of fun and REALLY makes a difference!!
at 9:34 pm
I am a NEW couponer and I need some organization tips. How do you organizer your coupons? Please be specific. Thanks for this site!
at 9:48 pm
i got about $40.00 WORTH OF FOOD COUPONS $16.00 WORTH OF BABY PRODUCT AND ABOUT $70.00 IN OTHERS LIKE SHAMPOO AND STUFF WHERES THE BEST PLACE TO GO I WAS THINKING KROGER
at 3:31 am
If you have not heard it yet, you might find it useful that Walmart is now accepting all coupons, be it Target’s, CVS,Walgreen’s whatever store. And they will pricematch : )
at 1:50 pm
THAT IS INSANE!!!
at 1:01 am
Walmart chhanged their policy on several issues on coupons March 11, 2011… please go to their site to review it and I suggest you PRINT it and take it to the store with you since many mgrs and CSMs are NOT aware of their new changes. First, Walmart will only price match with another store that is within 20 miles of them… where I live, i am LITERALLY .10mile from the nearest grocery and they will NOT recognize price matching!! Secondly… if a product is on sale or price matched for say, mens deoderant at $1.75 and you have a $2.00 off coupon for it it is NOW WALMARTS POLICY TO ROLL OVER THE DIFFERANCE INTO THE REST OF YOUR ORDER OR PAY YOU THE DIFFERANCE. THAT is why you need to print out their new policy!
For those of you that have Rite Aid in your area too… keep an eye on your receipt. At the bottom there is a survey number… go to riteaid.com, use this number and do a quick survey, and print out a coupon for $3.00 of any purchace of $15.00 or more (watch the expiration dates). You will most likely get one of these survey receipts each time you shop and they CAN be stacked!!
at 4:08 pm
So if you have $30 worth of items and two of these $3 off $15 coupons, I can use both?
at 12:32 pm
I want to be an extreme couponer. What are the best websites to get free printable coupons. Is there a website that you can just search for a certain coupon and print it? My store currently had Purex Laundry soap on sale 2 for $5.00. I can’t find a coupon for Purex. HELP!
at 1:56 pm
Hi Vera,
I m new to all this but wanted to know the steps to do extreme couponing. What is the best Sunday newspaper to look for coupons , which other online websites should i search for good coupons. I lost my job , have a 4year and now expecting. Please help me to save some money.
Thanks,
KS

Where is everyone Getting there Manufacturers coupons. I can see myself getting a few of the inserts but just watching the tv shows, I saw them with thousands of inserts and non printables.
at 8:51 am
EXACTLY!!!!!!! I would love to know. Seems like I need to find someone who does a paper route and have them save me some inserts from their distribution center.
at 7:27 pm
me and my foster mother amanda watched the show and are very interested in possibly starting couponing. im sixteen and it really interest me for some reason im not sure. amandas question is “How do you get the stores to let you group all the coupons together at one time in order for you to get all the savings you do?”
at 8:27 pm
I am VERY interested in starting extreme couponing! I went out and purchased 2 sunday papers today and BOY was I surprised to find the price for our little paper was $1.50!
The real reason I am posting here is for advice. I live in a small, rural town with only 3 local grocery stores. Two of them will not accept any printed coupon (after the Dorito’s fiasco) and the third one will accept a few, but they are overpriced to start with, so very few people even shop there. One of the lower priced stores that does not take printed coupons has a weekly doubler, but it is for 50 cents max per coupon, not good on BOGO or free coupons, and will only double 3 items in your cart per person, per day. I cannot make 10 seperate transactions without 9 other people with me. There is a Safeway and an Albertson’s, both are an hour’s drive away, and there is a super-Walmart about 45 minutes away.
Teach me all I need to know, my teacher!
at 10:02 pm
I also live in rural USA. We have 1 store. I do have a small walmart 10 miles away. I will need to travel an hour to get to the stores that have the best deals. I havent started couponing yet. but that will change starting next Sunday.
at 6:19 pm
Vera,
Your site has been VERY insightful. We have a household of only 2, my husband works horrific shiftwork and I am currently trying to get my disability as a result of damage done to my face and nervous system from an ex-spouse. I DO NOT say this for sympathy! I hate sympathy! I am a SURVIVOR and thank God everyday that He not only gave me a way out but a new life with a GREAT man. But after several attempts to work, it became apparent that my body was simply not going to allow me to do the things I was once able to before the abuse. God has a bigger plan for me, I am trying my hand at writing to maybe help other women in those types of situations to help them see that there is a way out and that there is life afterwards. But, since I currently have no income and my medical bills, prescriptions and all take up a large chunk of our budget I have been wracking my brain as to how to help us in other ways financially. I think couponing could be one way I could seriously help us in a tremendous way. I have been reading through your site and sites like yours trying to learn more and more. I have SERIOUS short term memory problems, so my concern is forgetting what coupons I do have and missing out on sales and deals. Do you have any ideas to help me in that area? We get paid twice a week and try to shop on paydays. We also try to eat very low carb, the reason for this is that my husband works on large machinery (I am talking, he drives trucks the size of a house or bigger) for 12 hour shifts, and he might work 3 twelve hour days, a 12 hour swing (3pm-3am) and then maybe 5 -8 12 hour nights and then get one day off and start all over again. We try to eat very healthy, for his sake and mine. My memory is so bad at times that I actually forget to eat unless he texts me and reminds me to eat. I really want to do this couponing thing because I believe if I can get the system down, it could save us up to the equivalent of a car payment a month! That in itself would alleviate so much pressure from my husband and put more money in our savings for an emergency situation, or we could double up on car payments and rid ourselves of a bill faster. Our goal is to get rid of as many bills as we can as quickly as we can without touching our savings or 401k. We have been able to rid ourselves of ALL credit cards, now we are down to our car payments, an ATV which we are going to sell, and our house and utilities. We have only been married 2 years this August and my husband is GREAT with finances, and he is ALL for the couponing. ANY advice you can give me to help me organize and get started and help me find a way to keep it organized in a manner where I won’t forget what I have in the way of coupons so that I don’t waste them would be greatly appreciated. I know some people will read this and say, “there are only 2 of you, how hard can it be?” It is still difficult, I have a son who is deployed overseas with the Army and we send him packages often to help him deal better with his time over there. He gets deployed about every 6 months with his job and it is hard, he will be 21 and since he joined at 18 he has only been stateside about 16 months of that time. I am proud of him but he is my best friend as well as my son and if I could send him more I would. Couponing would allow us to be able to be able to do that for him. He deserves that. I also want to be able to volunteer at a Women’s Shelter, the nearest one to me is 40 miles one way, couponing would allow me to be able to afford the gas money to drive to the shelter and back a couple of times a month and maybe provide inspiration to those women. Couponing can open doors beyond just saving money for your household if you look beyond yourself. At least that is what I believe.
Vera, I know you are a VERY busy mother, and woman, but I hope you can find time to respond to my query. God Bless you and your family. You are helping so many families that are struggling during these tough economic times and that is a gift! You are an inspiration! <3

We are a bankrate company. Ncsreporting is our affiliate name, and we have an credit card affiliate program. We have several deal sites that promote our product and make a lot of money each month. We have had deal sites that have made over 200k in a single month with our cash back products. Which I have worked with several different deal sites to help them reach great revenue marks. What would happened is that you would sign up with ncs, and I would be your affiliate rep. We would give you good payouts for placing our cash back products on your site, and every approval that comes through your site we pay you every month for your traffic based on how many approval you get coming through your site. I think it would be a perfect fit for your website, and we could work very well together. Let me know what you think. Thank you for your time, and I am looking forward to hearing back from you. Have a good day.

Ok i just watched the show extreme cuponing and i loved it. Now that i have found your blog i understand how to get started. I was wondering tho. Does anyone know any sites that I can use to get cupons. I am a single mom. I live with my mother step dad my two younger siblings and my son. So there are six people in a one income house. Crazy right? If i could find a place to get cupons this would help with our shopping bill greatly. We already cupon , but it would be better to save more. Thanks for all your tips!!!

After watching the Extreme Couponing show, ive noticed that they all seem to go online to organize their items and prices etc. They never reveal the favorite site each individual uses. Any Suggestions on these would be quite useful and appreciated.

I think that extreme couponing is an awesome thing. I am new and have not really got started. I was wondering if there was a group of couponers in or around the Louisville Kentucky area that meet and exchange coupons and clip them as well. I am interested in this and would like to get more involved in this. My wife thinks I am crazy but I told her just wait until I show you the real first savings with this and you will see then why people are doing it. So any hints would be helpful ad ay advice or help you could give would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks Ed Romine

I’ve found that the new show about extreme couponing seems to have raised store employees’ suspicion. Today I had some problems using coupons I’ve used before. They scan fine, but the cashier didn’t want to scan it because she said my product didn’t match the picture (the coupon was for ANY product from that brand and it stated that on the coupon in ALL CAPS). I had to call a manager over and they honored the coupon. My husband hates putting up with these kinds of hassles so he prefers not to coupon. But I LOVE saving money and will continue to use coupons.

I was wanting to know if you have 3 coupons for an item can you use all 3 coupons for that item. If you can someone please let me know. Because I went to a Kroger and the cashier told me I could not do that.

I would love to get started on using coupons, i haven’t made the time to do so yet. I work at Wal mart and it’s true that we have a new coupon policy were we will honor coupons at other stores whether it be our local Walgreens, Fred’s, Piggly Wiggly, Save a Lot, it doesn’t matter as long as it specifies a specific amount, they don’t honor buy one, get one free coupons, or coupons with a particular percentage off. Another good thing about Wal mart is their price match guarantee, our store doesn’t even require an ad; in our town the match has to be from a store within a 45 mile radius. It works great because we have at least 4 other grocery stores in town to compare sale prices with. Wal mart even takes register rewards that our local Walgreens gives out and the coupons in their sales papers. I haven’t figured out completely how to extreme coupon just yet; one customer of mine at Wal mart who has it down on extreme couponing told me that she goes to Walgreens and breaks all of her purchases down into multiple transactions, by her doing this she is able to collect register rewards and use toward the very next transaction. A few days ago i checked out a lady who did a price match on her 6 cans of Campbells soup and got it for 0.59 instead of a dollar, then she had coupons that saved her a $1 off each can, so in fact Wal mart owed her money, but since she had additional purchases she was able to use it on them. Seeing other people do this really motivates me to get started on saving towards my weekly grocery bill. I hope this information is helpful for those of you out there who are trying to get started on saving $$$$$$$$.
