Field Report: Milly Spring/Summer 2012 Collection #NYFW
Designer Michelle Smith said goodbye to her traditional ruffles and bows and went modern and mod with the new Spring/Summer collection and the result was spectacular.
Smith was inspired by French artist Sonia Delaunay who is known for her bold colors and geometric prints, and her inspiration resonated clearly in the geometric design and color blocking that was the benchmark of this collection. The collection included short sheath dresses and cigarette pants that complimented the mod feeling of the print.
The backdrop of the runway was a geometric print canvas in red, blue, green and brown that not only added atmosphere to the show, but also served as the color palate of the collection. The clean, simple silhouettes did an excellent job of keeping the bold print from being overwhelming. While a departure from the look of previous Milly collections, the bold prints and clean lines were certainly a crowd pleaser.
