I just came back from a sequence of trips (Charleston, Disney Fantasy Cruise, Disney, Legoland, Sea World). Yes, I’m still cross-eyed. No, that doesn’t mean that I can take a break. I have all these ideas in my head that I just HAVE to get down on my blog. Lessons learned! Mistakes made that I want to remind you to avoid. It all has to come out in order for me to truly relax.
During my time away from home, I found an absolute need for the following items:
Sunscreen in your daily moisturizer: I got SO BURNED because I forgot my moisturizer and I was afraid to put regular sunscreen on my face in fear of having an allergic reaction. I have VERY sensitive skin – so I have to be careful about what goes on my face. Pack a moisturizer with SPF 30 like Eucerin Everyday Protection Face Lotion and save yourself from all that peeling and sun damage.
A backpack: This was the first trip where we brought a backpack with us and it was so great to have. We put all our sweaters, sneakers, cameras, etc in there and Bill carried it along. I, on the other hand, just had a very small purse that kept our money, hotel keys, and park passes. Water bottles were easily transported. Souviners as well. Everything and anything went right in. SO EASY.
Snacks: Yes, I know everything and anything is available at theme parks – but it all costs LOTS of money. I like to pack a few snacks like GoGo Squeez applesauces on the go. If my kids need a little pick me up – I just pass them one of these pouches and all is right with the world again. Good stuff!
Mobile recharger: Learned this lesson the hard way. While at Sea World, my cellphone AND Canon camera DIED. I was mortified. Lost half a day’s worth of pictures because of it. As soon as I got back to the hotel room, I looked up mobile recharges and realized I had one at HOME! Why didn’t I bring it!?!! Rayovac’s Platinum Powerpack actually recharges your cellphone while you are on the go. AMAZING! A MUST OWN.
Loose change: I know this one seems simple enough but we didn’t have any while driving on Florida’s turnpike and the booth was unmanned. So, we went right through. Waiting for that $25 bill to get to me in the mail. UGH! It’s important to have change – even if it’s just a dollar’s worth.
Also – we didn’t have any money to tip the hotel’s maid. So, we left her a gift card that had $7 on it and wrote a note apologizing. How embarrassing! We are a credit card family, but it’s important to carry cash as well.
Waterproof Mascara: I know I sound like a broken record – but I mean it. You never know when you’re going to get dunked and the last thing you want is your mascara running. It’s always nice to have a wand in your back pocket – so to speak. I use CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara.
What do you bring along that you cannot live without while on vacation?
