Exclusive Interview with Alex McCord

I had the pleasure of interviewing the lovely Alex McCord of The Real Housewives of New York. We ran into Alex at Accessorize for Motherhood, an exclusive influencer party, hosted by Lifestyle Expert Pamela Pekerman. Alex has a new show called Coffee Shop Confessions and I wanted to hear all about it, as well as ask her a few other questions.

What have you been up to lately?

Alex: We’ve been really busy post-housewives! Just this week we are shipping the first orders to hotels of our Egyptian cotton bedding and bath line — our company is called Aluxe Home — and we’ve just gone into production on the home line, which will be in retail mid-summer. Simon is doing lots of social media work, including spearheading a new smart phone app called Qwiqq, and this week I debuted a new show, called Coffee Shop Confessions!

Can you tell us about your new show?

Alex: Coffee Shop Confessions is part of Café Mom, a website founded by Andrew Shue from Melrose Place. The show features Andrew, myself and two other moms, Timberly Whitfield and Julia Knight. Each week we host a re-enactment of anonymous mom confessions, and discuss it. Some are hilarious, some are terrifying — a few I’m guilty of myself, too — you’ll have to watch to guess which ones. It is a great group of people and was loads of fun to shoot.

You are the ultimate busy mom! What is one thing that helps you keep track of everything that is going on in your professional and personal life?

Alex: My phone is never far from my hand, or back pocket, and without Google Calendar I would never know where to be. It’s a lifesaver.

Let’s talk about travel! How much of the year are you away from home?

Alex: I try never to be gone more than once a month — less if possible, but when work beckons, you have to go. We actually talk about that in the first episode of CSC. When Simon or I are away, we talk or video chat with the family twice a day for 20 minutes, and take care of business the rest of the time. We do try to not stay on the phone with each other the whole time one of us is away — it’s important to focus on one thing at a time and it makes coming home even sweeter!

What beauty products do you never travel without?

Alex: I have a full travel set of the Dermalogica products I swear by (Dermal Clay Cleanser and the Oil Control Lotion are great for stabilizing post flight skin.) Also I always try to wear my own foundation on shoots — my skin and I love Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation.

Any advice for moms traveling with kids?

Alex: It’s always better to laugh than lose it, so take a breath and make peace with the idea that something will go wrong at some point. Walk kids through the aiport security routine so they know what to expect. And even though we’re all about minimizing screen time for kids, do let them use electronic devices for at least part of the time so that you can relax a little!

What book are you reading right now?

Alex: I just finished Kristen Johnston’s “Guts,” and before that was so obssessed with the new season of Downton Abbey that I re-read “Jane Eyre.”

Check out Alex on Coffee Shop Confessions and tell us what you think!

  • This resonates:
“We do try to not stay on the phone with each other the whole time one of us is away — it’s important to focus on one thing at a time…”

Comment is acting as an entry to the CVS contest.
