Field Report: Redbook Beauty MVP Awards #RedbookMVPAwards
Once a year, Redbook Magazine assembles the best minds in beauty to test a plethora of beauty products — everything from eyeliner to blowdryers– to bring you the best of the best at the Redbook Beauty MVP Awards. The beauty testers include the magazine editors and 22 judges, including makeup artist Sonia Kashuk; Cindy Barshop, owner of Completely Bare Spas; Lisa Price, founder of Carol’s Daughter; Dr. Amy Wechsler and other top dermatologists; and celebrity makeup artists and hair stylists. The winners are celebrated at a breakfast here in New York, and Lady and the Blog was on the scene to bring you all latest and greatest in beauty products.
Learning about new beauty products is always an entertaining experience, but the Redbook Beauty MVP Awards were made even more entertaining by actress and author Ali Wentworth who presented the Makeup Awards and had the audience in hysterics with her “real woman” commentary.
One of the best parts of the event was that I had the opportunity to test the winning products from each category. While all of the winners were amazing and very deserving, here’s some of my personal favorites.
Best Shampoo & Conditioner Winner: Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. Moroccan oil is all the rage in hair care right now, and for good reason. The benefits of Moroccan oil include everything from taming the frizzies to protecting your hair again heat damage from styling equipment. I have long wanted to worship at the alter of Moroccan oil with my friends, but every time I try it my hair ends up looking like an oily mess, so I could not wait to rush home and try the latest and greatest from Organix. After several washes with the Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner, I am thrilled to report that my hair looks absolutely amazing! It is noticeably shinier, feels softer and as an added bonus, when I ran a straightener through my (admittedly already very straight) hair, I got a shinier, silkier result than I normally do. What’s more, when I woke up the next morning, my hair still looked remarkably like the night before. My verdict, drop what you are doing and pick some up immediately. Your hair thanks you.
Three more products from the winners circle that really stood out are Best Eyeliner Physicans Formula Shimmer Strips Eyeliner Trio, Best Lip Balm Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Advanced Therapy and Best Body Scrub H2O+ Sea Moss Black Sand Body Scrub.
The Best Eyeliner winner Physicans Formula Shimmer Strips Eyeliner Trio was hands down my favorite new find out of all of the winning products. This eyeliner trio comes with silver, charcoal and black pencils. At first I was skeptical of the silver pencil, but now I do not know how I lived without it. The silver is actually more of a gunmetal than a bright sparkly shade and gives you a subtle, bright eyed appearance. For a more dramatic look, I layered the silver with the charcoal or the black and the effect made me look like a makeup genius. All of the shades are long wearing, water resistant and smudge free. Perhaps most amazing, the whole trio retails for only $10.95!
When it comes to lip balm, I am very particular, but it only took one use and the Best Lip Balm winner Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Advanced Therapy had won me over. The first thing that I noticed is that this product hydrates your lips and gives you some shine without being the least bit sticky. But the fabulousness doesn’t stop there, Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is actually an anti-aging treatment proven to repair, nourish, plump and smooth wrinkles around the delicate lip area. Amazing! There is also a version with SPF 15 that will be a must have in my beach bag this summer.
I have always been a big fan of the products in the H2O+ line so I could not wait to get my hands on the Best Body Scrub Winner H2O+ Sea Moss Black Sand Body Scrub. This amazing scrub contains micro fine black sand derived from cooled lava and includes Irish moss, sea salt, aloe vera and provitamin B to hydrate, soothe and revitalize your skin. After one use, my skin felt sluffed and buffed to perfection. I am in love with how this product makes my skin feel, and I am already planning on using it in the winter months when my skin gets dry and less than fabulous.
