Which Is Worse? Diet Drinks Or Caffeine? I’m Having A REALLY Hard Time Deciding What To Do

Let me walk you through what’s going on here.

I’m trying to get clean. I’ve taken myself off all of the daily medication I’ve been on the last two years and have stopped drinking sugary drinks. I’ve also stopped with my black tea / lemonade concoctions and have since switched to water and Crystal Light.

I love Crystal Light. It’s the only diet drink that doesn’t actually taste like diet. I HATE Diet Soda or Diet tea. BUT Crystal Light (lemonade, pink lemonade or fruit punch) are just fine. I can’t tell they are fake.

BUT…

The last three days I’ve been going non-stop with Crystal Light and I started to get MAJOR headaches. It could be the weather – it’s been pretty bad with the rain and the sinus pressure triggers. But there’s something inside of me that’s saying it’s all this diet stuff I’m intaking.

So I’m so confused now.

Which is worse?

Should I go back to drinking black tea with a splash of lemonade (which means I take in a TON of caffeine each day and sometimes have a hard time going to sleep)

OR

Should I stick with the Crystal Light and continue to put fake stuff into my system? Doing this I sleep great – I can go to bed with no problem. However, I am VERY ANTI-DIET. VERY, VERY ANTI-DIET. I don’t believe in these foreign, unnatural chemicals. I feel like my body is telling me this is wrong???

Caffeine vs. diet

Which is worse?? I’m seriously having a hard time with this!!!!????

You are on the right track…
Think about it this way – what is Crystal Light exactly? I have no idea what those unpronouncable ingredients are, how it was made, and what it does to the body. I feel safer drinking tea, organic when possible. I know that the herbs come from naturally grown plants and that they were grown without pesticides. Maybe try switching to a tea that contains lower amounts of caffeine (white tea) in the afternoon to help with the sleep issues.

I can’t do the diety type drinks, powders, and concoctions, either. I get jittery and headachy. (heck I can’t even chew gum without getting a headache/icky feeling from the chemicals in it). I drink a ton of water and if i want some flavor, I’ll squeeze a little bit of an orange in it. Or even a lime or a lemon.

If I were you I would switch to a lemon infused black tea. I am more scared of artificial sugars and flavors than caffiene and real sugar.

  • Artificial sweeteners are really terrible. If it were me I would switch the black tea and lemon. Another option is to use Stevia. I use a pinch in a glass of water with lemon as a make-shift lemonade. Calorie free, natural and free of side effects.

  • artificial sweeteners are the worst — caffeine and sugar over them any day.

You maybe going through caffeine withdrawals, it’s a real thing! Caffeine is a drug and some people get headaches if they don’t get that certain amount each day. Me I can have as much or as little and it doesn’t affect me, I can even have it at night right before bed and I’m ok. But if my dad doesn’t have his coffee everyday ( he drinks like 3 cups throughout the day) then he gets massive headaches/ migraines until he does, so it might be that your body needs the caffeine again.

Regarding Crystal Light, I know a guy who kept getting headaches and they finally traced it back to the CL. Could be that versus the lack of caffeine.

Didn’t you used to buy loose tea? Why not brew up a pot of decaf in a flavor you like and add splash of lemonade to that?

Have you ever heard of Stevia? We have it here in the Netherlands, it is a natural sweetener. I add it to many of my drinks etc and it doesn’t give me migraines, and believe me, I get those from too much artificial sweeteners!!

  • My suggestion: try black tea, or green tea, with REAL honey.. (made locally, not grocery store stuff). delicious and will help you with sinus pressure & allergies, etc. SO good for you. Another health sweet… CINNAMON.

black tea is good for you- instead of piling in sugary lemonade- try lemon squeezes and fresh mint 0r water it down. You may be getting headaches because of lack of black tea- aka the caffeine. There are all sorts of teas that are decaf that are good- but remember to use real tea not the processed. Good luck- I need my black tea and have been told by my dr it helps with metabolism- also white tea. I do not add any sugar- in fact have not bought sugar in years there are healthy alts to add- even fruit juice or pear slice, orange slice- anything can be added..I also add ginger – I have it fresh here, it adds zing and helps with the tummy

  • Definitely stick to the tea. Artificial sweeteners are HORRIBLE for you and will definitely give you headaches. I’d say that if you’re splitting the black tea with lemonade, maybe try filling it more with ice so that it gets a bit watered down.
