Seriously – the highlight of my week. I’ve been reading up about the Amish community for the last few months. I’ve sort of become semi-obsessed with the whole concept of living off the grid. (says the hyper-connected blogger)

While vacationing in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, we decided to visit Aaron and Jessica’s Buggy Rides and opted for the one hour tour through a working Amish farm. The Amish buggy ride was a lot of fun and extremely informative. No question was off limits and I was part of a very inquisitive group.

Some of the children were placed up front so they could have a better view. Natalie and Liam were really excited about being so close to the horses.

We were able to ride onto the land of one Amish family who was kind enough to allow us to peek into their world. We saw the school house and one of the dairy farms. The farm owner had over 90 acres of land and was responsible for it all. Morning, noon and night – that gentleman worked the fields. Simply amazing! His children were everywhere doing household chores which included mowing the lawn, tending to the cows, and managing the corn.

Did you know that the average Amish family in this area has 7.2 children? WOW!

Besides the cows, there were other animals for the children to interact with. Everyone had a turn feeding the rabbit grass.

Have you ever wondered what the Amish community did during the winter? They certainly can’t grow crops! Instead they work with tobacco. Here are some leaves drying in a barn. Really interesting!

At the end of our stay, we enjoyed some freshly squeezed lemonade and chocolate chip cookies. Delicious!
