The crowd gathered at the Standard Hotel read as a preview of what was to come down the white powdered runway for Katy Gallagher’s S/S13 show. Dark, moody, edgy, with a hint of goth was the theme in crowd, and fans of Gallagher knew that more of the same was coming up.
Gallagher’s collection of swimsuits, gowns, and separates stayed true to her gothic aesthetic. All the looks stayed completely neutral and were styled in one of two ways; head to toe black or top to bottom creme. I loved the minimalist approach with the natural fabrics (silk, lamb skin, and kangaroo) and cuts (peplums, thigh high cuts, crops and cutouts) doing all the talking.
The asymmetrical hem lines and “undone” futuristic collection combined with the deliberate lack of color made for a really intriguing collection. Gothic and Minimalist are two aesthetics that don’t seem to have much to do with one another, but for the girl who likes both, Gallagher has designed the perfect collection for you.
