School Time: Transitioning Back Into A Bedtime Routine With The Kids

It’s really important to get the kids into bed nice and early now that both are in school full time. Sure, the summer was fun with those late nights and no rules. But we are officially BACK TO REALITY. These babies need their rest (and so does their mama!). If I’m being honest with you – these little ones put me to bed more often than I put them to bed. The first trimester of this pregnancy was ROUGH for me. I was sometimes asleep and under the covers by 7:30. NO JOKE!!!

But now that I have most of my energy back thanks to that second trimester jolt, the roles have thankfully been reversed once again. How do we do it? Easy – we have a routine!

The family eats a pretty early dinner. Baths happen right after the plates are cleared away. Then the kids get some time to either go on the computer or watch television. By 7PM, they are getting washed up and changing into their pajamas. Then … we all hop into bed. Natalie gets to pick a few books she wants to read to us and we all get cozy under the comforter.

My Serta mattress has an adjustable base which means that we don’t have to fuss with pillows to sit up and look at the pictures. If the kids want, we even put on the massager. It’s always a good time whenever one of them gets a hold of the remote. LOL!

But seriously – I never thought I would use my adjustable base as much as I do. I love it! As part of her daily homework, we are required to read 30 minutes a day with Natalie. It’s SO MUCH EASIER being in our bed. There’s no fussing around. We are absolutely comfortable and can focus all our attention on the story and not readjusting ourselves.

* I’m working with Serta for the next few months to talk about my new mattress. All opinions are my own

I don’t know how I missed the video the first time around, but that sucker looks amazing! We absolutely hate the mattress we bought like 2 or 3 years ago and just started talking about getting a new one. I’m gonna check this one out. Is it like really soft or in between? I like sorta firm, but my husband likes it a little squishier. LOL

  • Love, love, love this. Routines are so important and will be treasured memories for your family in the years to come.

  • hearing kids read is such a joy :)
