Naeem Khan’s collection was inspired by the Dutchess of Windsor and other jet-setting ladies and “elemental beauty and cultural landscapes.” Translation: Naeem Khan takes us on a journey around the world and shows us what the most fashionable of ladies would wear as she undertakes the voyage.
The collection had all of the gorgeous embellishment and stunning gowns that we have come to expect from Naeem Khan, and despite my high expectations after attending the two previous seasons’ shows, he not only lived up to my expectations, but vaulted over them to present a collection that included gowns that literally made the audience gasp out loud as they made their way down the runway (see the navy laser cut gown with beaded detail, above).
With simple makeup and sleek chignon, the styling of the collection let the intricate clothes shine, and shine they did. The collection featured exquisite beadwork both on gowns and Moroccon-inspired chiffon caftans in addition to leather mosaic appliqué on black jackets and shift dresses. The collection also included a simple but stunning large back rose print on cream gowns and brilliant blue wave print that evoked the crashing waves of the ocean.
The glittering gowns weren’t the only stars of the show, however, the celeb filled front row included Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi (who regularly dons Naeem Khan gowns for red carpet events), Jordana Brewster and Julianne Hough.
All in all, Naeem Khan’s Spring/Summer 2013 took us on a journey around the world while still presenting a cohesive collection that blended high-society elegance with modern sophistication.
