Daily Diary: Me And My Three Pound Baby

I mentioned this yesterday in my pregnancy update, but just in case you don’t like watching videos I thought I’d write a post about it. At 27 plus weeks, I’m carrying a 3 pound baby. Ok, it’s 2 pounds and 15 ounces… but you get the drift. That’s about 1 pound heavier than he should be.

I am CERTAIN I have gestational diabetes again. Had it with Natalie – but didn’t with Liam (which was odd because I gained the same amount of weight and they were 1 ounce different in size). At 37 weeks, Natalie was 8.13 and at 38 weeks, Liam was 8.14. Big babies!!

So, it looks like this one is going to be a bruiser too (assuming I get that far).

Here’s the thing. I’ve gained 16 pounds since conception which is exactly where I am supposed to be, right??? So, I didn’t think I would have a really big baby at this point. I thought we were going to be in the average range. To hear that he’s one pound heavier than average was wild.

But I’m actually a little happy about it. Bigger babies do better in the NICU right? And if I have to think worst case scenario – that gives me some peace. At least I’m out of the 1 pound range. :)

Anyway – it’s all guessing at this point. I have no idea if I had GD. But until that test, I’m going to be living it up! No judgements please!! :) I only have a few days to go before we know for sure.

  • I was thinking that was bigger than he should be at this point. I’m 30 weeks and don’t think this little guy is in the 3lb range yet.

  • Hang in there! I had GD with both my children but the second time around, did acupuncture and herbs to keep it at bay and luckily, didn’t have insulin shots and was able to keep it diet control.

You’re doing so well – I remember having my breakdown both times with my pregnancies and I just kept telling myself – as long as Baby is healthy, as long as Baby is healthy…didn’t meant that Mommy didn’t drive herself nuts!

  • Wow! That’s great news. Hang in there Vera. Minute by minute you’re getting there. My oldest was born at 34 weeks weighing 8.5 pounds after me having to be in bed for weeks. He just got engaged Saturday night, he’s 27 now. I know it’s hard staying in bed but since you’ve been through this before I don’t have to tell you it’s worth it.
