How To Make A Christmas Kids Ugly Sweater For CHEAP

A Christmas kids ugly sweater is so much fun to make. We do it every single year with the family and so I decided to write a post about how we DIY our options for you to check out. My family always wears ugly Christmas sweaters to our Christmas Eve celebration. It is a great way to give the kids something to look forward to. Who am I kidding? We get equally excited!!

I looked online a bit and found that most kids ugly Christmas sweaters ran about $60. For a family of four…. that was completely out of the question. That’s why we decided to make our own and thanks to the Dollar Store, we were able to do it for a lot less!

>We went to the dollar store, spent about $20 and used old shirts from our closets. Liam’s shirt is actually turned inside out. The original shirt had a logo and I didn’t want to have to deal with competing with the original print. I also didn’t want to have to deal with buying a new shirt that I would just RUIN. Whatever works! You are only going to wear them once, right? A Kids Ugly Sweater typically only gets one wear, right?

Take a look at how we made our ugly Christmas Sweaters and let me know what you think. We let the children have full decision-making power over their designs. We did NOT get involved in any way. The only thing that we helped out with was gluing.

WHAT DID WE BUY TO MAKE THE UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATERS

  • tinsel
  • Christmas stickers
  • small ornaments
  • anything tiny related to Christmas from the Dollar Store that was on the shelf

Don’t overthink it. It will all look cute on your children. Also, don’t worry about the placement of these items on your shirts, because the patterns don’t really matter. It’s supposed to be ugly, right?

Have you ever make kids ugly sweaters before? How did yours turn out? Would love to hear!

I'm loving this! I love ugly Christmas sweaters, I just never thought about making my own. Next year my family is going to have an Ugly Sweater Party and we'll have an Ugly Sweater Parade in it so everybody can show off their works in all their glory. Thank you so much for the know-how!
