The excitement generated by the live performance of the band Cable did not dissipate during an elegant and edgy Fall 2013 show by designer Timo Weiland, during New York Fashion Week. The theme was a luxurious mix of English countryside, equestrian, military, and funky golf inspired shoes and boots, all with a nod towards menswear tailoring. The collection included suiting and sporty pieces mixed together in playful yet wearable ways. There was so much to look at from head to toe at this show, I wished the models could stop for a moment so I could take it all in.

The windowpane plaid pantsuit with lace cami, (and yes pantsuits are back, and not just for Hillary Clinton) was wearable for any woman wanting to look like a glam CEO. The wide leg plum/navy “Guard Stripe” was a fresh take on a classic look, worn with a black chiffon blouse with contrast white collar that is a combo of button down meets sheer. The same stripe was used in a sexy “cross front” dress, which just goes to show, tomboys and fem girls can live on the same runway. The crowd loved the luxurious tapestries in fun swingy dresses, skirts, and denim inspired jackets and vests with over the top fur trim that shimmered as they came down the runway in traditional color combos of rich inky plums or elegant neutrals.

Weiland’s take on camo was a tale in contrast. The green camo confetti dress over black mesh takes the old military print and turns it on its head, and the bold graphic camo tops in both leather and fur shown with either leather or tweed skirts would also look great with a pair of jeans.

The highlight of this show was the shoes, a collaboration with designer Isubo, they we playful and special. Flame silhouette cut-outs danced on the arches of over-the-knee suede boots that were worn under foulard print skirts. Metallic gold golf shoes were seen in many variations, and will be seen on the streets of NYC soon…because they were to-die for!

If Weiland’s goal was to give woman beautiful, flattering, and fabulous sportswear that they can make their own with his Fall 2013 collection, he has succeeded with flying colors.
