This week, I presented the debut collection for my line, Tabii Just, during New York Fashion. It’s a bit of a dream come true scenario for me. Caravan Style Studio hosted the event at The Carlton Hotel. Caravan Stylist Studio is a one-stop place for celebs when they’re preparing for red carpet premieres, events or shows. Celebs can get full hair, makeup and other spa treatments. Claudine, who runs Caravan, has worked with celebs like Eve, Giuliana Rancic, Brendan Dooling, Claire Coffee, Valorie Curry, Megan Markle, Sarah Rafferty and many more. Caravan partnered with Save The Garment Center to support local designers who design and manufacture their clothing in New York City. It was the perfect fit for me because I design Tabii Just in my home studio in Brooklyn and we manufacture the clothing at a factory in Brooklyn.

The show was hosted by singer, Ashley Allen, who wore the Tabii Just Layla Dress. She looked so AMAZING. NY1 reporter, Stephanie Simon, wore the Tabii Just Sarah Dress for the second half of the show. It fit her like a glove. Stephanie and I didn’t have time to do a fitting before so I was praying it would fit. I literally just had to do a minor adjustment, that took me 2 seconds.

The prep for the show was insane. I hired two models from Boss Models and did fittings the week before the show. I chose Alison and Kayla, 2 stunning girls. Pop Beauty did makeup for the models. I sent the hair and makeup looks I wanted to Valerie at Caravan a few days before the show. Now, I gotta tell you, I can be picky. I know exactly what I want in my head and won’t stop til I get that. Well, I had no need to worry. Valerie and her team worked it out!! They used Salon Grafix hair products. I wanted the girls to look Caribbean sexy with a bit of edge. The hair and makeup team did exactly what I wanted. It was amazing.
As with any backstage, the show itself was insane. We literally had 2 minutes to strip the girls after their walk on the runway and dress them in the next look. I had 2 dressers with me and they were on point. It was complete insanity but the results were amazing. When the show was over, people commented on how much they loved the clothing and how awesome the girls looked. 80% of the work I do with Tabii Just is me working alone in my studio on my dress form or on the computer or working with the factory. I never really know the response I would get. It was incredible to get feedback and see people get really excited about my creations.
The New York Fashion Week show for the debut of Tabii Just was an unforgettable experience. I’m never going to forget the first show. There will be more in the future but there’s only one first. Big thanks to Claudine and Caravan Stylist Studio for including Tabii Just.
