Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending an event hosted by Kidz Vuz to celebrate the launch of Jennifer Perillo’s new cookbook “Homemade with Love”. Jennifer Perillo’s blog In Jennie’s Kitchen encompasses her passion for food, cooking, and family and her wonderful cookbook is a compilation of her tried and true recipes that are not only delicious but easy to make!
The event was held at Chef Toni’s Cooking Adventures , a fabulous space on the Upper East Side of NYC. Chef Toni’s is a cooking school for children that focuses on farm-to-table cooking and fun culinary play adventures. With its after school enrichment programs, camps, and classes that include cooking lessons, music, arts & crafts, and indoor/outdoor play Chef Toni’s Cooking Adventures is a unique way to instill a love of fresh healthy food in your children and inspire them to get involved in the meal making process at home!
Our afternoon started off with the group of children making a big bag of “All Purpose Baking Mix”. The baking mix could be used to make any one of three recipes; Pancakes , Waffles, or Cupcakes. My daughter chose to make the cupcakes (the apple doesn’t fall far from my cupcake lovin’ tree) and we went about mixing our ingredients and having fun while we listened to Jennifer’s instructions. FYI…you are supposed to use both the foil and paper liner in your muffin tin ( a fact I never knew) and only fill the liner 2/3rd’s of the way full with the cupcake batter , this makes for a perfect cupcake height when they rise. The cupcakes turned out so incredibly good and didn’t even need icing to be enjoyed.
The fantastic Kidz Vuz staff was on hand to interview the kids about their baking experience. Kidz Vuz is a totally safe (and free) video review sharing site for kids ages 7 to 12. It’s the only site that is dedicated to letting tweens have their say and share their views about stuff they love. You can see a post about the event HERE and be sure to check out the site and sign your child up to post their opinions about the things they love.
My daughter was thrilled to receive an autographed copy of Homemade With Love and scanned through the cookbook the whole ride home picking out recipes that she wanted to make with me. We made the Orange Balsamic Glazed Salmon recipe from the cookbook the very next evening and my family devoured it! It will definitely be a “go-to” meal for me from now on… prepared in under 30 minutes, (there are a lot of recipes in this book that you can make quickly) healthy, and yummy, what more does a busy Mom need?!
