How Does My Square Foot Garden Grow? FINALLY PLANTED!

Last year, my husband and I set up a small area in our backyard for planting vegetables. I only did it for a short period of time and then was placed on bed rest. My husband tried to keep up with it but then life got in the way and we ended up with cucumbers like this.  A little too big…. LOL!

Anyway, now that I am not stuck in a bed for 5 months I thought I’d give it a shot again. We enjoyed what we were able to harvest last year (herbs, tomatoes, string beans etc), but I WANT MORE!!!!!!!! My hope is that I can really BLOW IT OUT this season and get the kids involved as much as possible.

I bought cold weather and warm weather vegetables over the weekend. Figured to do it all in one trip to avoid excuses.  While the children were in school, I planted without gloves. I dug my fingers into the ground, pulled out all the old carrots and onions that didn’t make it last year, the weeds, the roots, and then turned dirt (all while wearing my wedding ring – yes, I’m new to this game).

So excited!!

So far we have beets, lettuce, thyme, rosemary, basil, broccoli (lots of broccoli), carrots, and… one other vegetable that I can’t think of right now. Inside my house by a window I have red onions, green peppers, sugar snap peas, red peppers and plan on purchasing 2 tomato plants once the weather gets a bit nicer.

Annnnnddddddddddddd………. we bought a LEMON TREE! So excited!

So, this is it folks! Back on the veggie train. So happy. Kids were PISSED that I did it all without them… but I promised them that they will help with the second batch.
