Momma Love, How the Mother Half Lives
Yesterday, I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Jessica Shyba of MommasGoneCity, Actress Amy Ryan and Photographer Ali Smith. These ladies are fabulous mommas and extremely talented ladies. I’ve been a long time fan of Ali’s work. From ballet dance, to rock musician and now photographer she’s just AMAZING! Her commercial photography work has been inspiring to me as a photographer myself.
Ali recently self-published her second book “Momma Love; How the Mother Half Lives” and yesterday I received a copy. What can I say? It’s a work of art. The book in its simpliest form shares stories about 40 moms (39+Ali). But that doesn’t do the book justice.
In Ali’s words, this book is a “true photographic image” sharing “stories of motherhood”.
It doesn’t just talk about being a mom, it shares about true motherhood. Our thoughts, our fears, our strengths and our love – for our children and ourselves.
Looking through Momma Love at the book party yesterday, I was struck by the raw realness of each mother, of their willingness to open their lives to people through the book. Each mother and their child captured by Ali.
My words here will not do Momma Love justice. You must see it for yourselves. The book will release on May 1st and will be available for sale on the Momma Love The Book website listed below.
