Otherwise…

Vera Sweeney was born in a little town called Manhattan. (ok – I won’t go that far back)

Prior To Blogging:

  • Graduated from the University of Albany with a business degree – concentration in Marketing and Information Systems
  • First job was with Ernst and Young (now known as Cap Gemini Ernst and Young) and worked primarily on UI testing and design. Client example: Mount Sinai, Sumitomo Bank, Merrily Lynch and multiple start-ups
  • Looking to get more into coding, Vera left Ernst and Young and began working at Accenture. Client example: JP Morgan, Goldman Sacs, and Vanguard
  • Then 9/11 happened and everything changed. After about a year of debate, she quit the business industry and became a computer teacher for a Catholic School. During that time, she rocked their world teaching 5 year olds to create PowerPoint presentations and had the 8th graders designing their own websites. (good times – good times)
  • The stork visited and her first daughter was born. Vera quit her job to become a stay at home mom.

The Blogging Era:

  • After about 3 months, Vera saw an Entertainment show highlighting the “Top 10 Celebrity Gossip Websites on the Net”. She was sold! In December of 2005, I’m Not Obsessed was born. INO offers work and family friendly insight into the latest celebrity gossip, paparazzi photos, and up-to-the-minute pop culture news.
  • Several years later, Vera created Lady and the Blog because she wanted to have more of a personal voice on the web. Lady and the Blog focuses primarily on food, family and fashion. Here are some topics that are covered on LATB:
  • Step by Step recipes that Vera makes or finds interesting on the web
  • NY Fashion Week coverage
  • Fashion and Beauty product reviews
  • Celebrity looks for less
  • Designer previews
  • Deals and Steals – coupons, freebies and more
  • Book reviews
  • Travel tips
  • Vera’s personal blog
  • Getting Gorgeous is a joint venture with friend and partner Audrey McClelland.  Several times a year they bring together high powered brands from the fashion and beauty industry with the most influential mommy bloggers on the net.

Let’s Get Personal:

Vera Sweeney has two children – Natalie and Liam and lives in Long Island with her husband Bill. She has two chihuahuas named Jack and Jill and has a new goal in live – to TRAVEL. Where has she been so far you ask?

  • Italy
  • Germany
  • Austria
  • England
  • France
  • Netherlands
  • Belgium

  • Vatican City

{Editor’s Note: I am VERY interested in doing more travel blogging. If you are putting together a blogger group for a client – I would love to discuss details.}

My Likes:

  • I have an iPhone nd I love it with all my heart and soul.
  • I love to cook but hate to clean – go figure.
  • My elbows are double jointed.
  • I live for Starbucks Black Tea Lemonade – unsweetened.
  • I lost an insane amount of weight after having both of my children using ‘Weight Watchers’. My husband did the same. Love that program.
  • I rather have a cracker than a piece of chocolate.
  • My favorite shows are ‘True Blood’, ‘Spartacus’ and ‘The Rachel Zoe Project’. I die.
  • I refuse to pay for movies that will make me cry.
  • My absolute favorite meal… is Lipton Extra Noodle Soup. I add acini di pepe to make it more noodle-y and top it with Parmesan cheese.
  • One of my lifelong goals is to see a tumbleweed in action. No, seriously.
  • I want a tummy tuck but am afraid to get one.
  • I am a “cut off  your nose to spite your face” kinda gal. It’s a challenge.
  • I’ve been married for 10 years. I can’t believe it. I mean – I can believe it – I just can’t believe that much time has passed.
  • I have benign positional vertigo and it stinks.
  • I have never been on a cruise and am working up the courage to get on board. My first trip will be to Alaska. {one day}
  • I cn’at spel – no relly. Viva la spellchecker!
  • If I could have a superpower it would be to understand and speak every language ever known to man. Not knowing a second (or third) language is one of my biggest regrets in life.
  • I will keep adding to this list – stay tuned.

  6. Hi Vera,

I’m Mike, the UK MD of Ezoic, a layout optimization company. I’ve spent some time browsing around ladyandtheblog.com and think it is a prime candidate for our layout testing platform. I write to offer you an invite to try out our technology, for free and with no tie-in or contractual commitment.

Industry giants like Google and Amazon know how important it is to continually test their sites – now you can too.

Ezoic’s fully automatic multi-variate testing platform serves several layouts of your site to find out what visitors like and dislike, then adjusts to improve user statistics and increase ad revenue. It requires no additional time or effort from you, nor do you need any technical experience.

A California-based, VC-backed, tech company, Ezoic has a growing client base of informational website owners, worldwide.

If I send you some details over do you have two minutes to take a look?

    Mike McGuire

I have been receiving your emails for quite some time, but in the last few weeks most of your pix are not opening up. I wrote you last week, but have not received an answer nor has this problem changed. I love the pix along with all the articles. I hope this can be fixed. Thanks for your assistance.

  10. Hi Vera,
My name is Wendy, and I work as a web marketing specialist for BuyerReview.com.

Buyerreview.com is a popular, independent consumer product review website. Our editors review and write about health and beauty products including anti-aging creams, facial cleansers, acne treatments, moisturizers, and supplements.

I’ve been researching high rank/high traffic and synergistic mommy blogger and female-focused websites and came across your blog.

We’d like to know if you would be interested in reviewing one of our products?

Here’s the details and value proposition:
    –We send you a product
    –Try/review it on your site
–Link the product review on your blog to our review page of the product on BuyerReview.com
–You can keep the product and use as a give-away to one of your fans/followers (great incentive to bond with existing followers and gain new ones!)

In addition, please advise if you have advertorial opportunities (where we write an advertorial about one of our products with link back to our site) and what those rates may be.

    Looking forward to your response.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
    Wendy Montes de Oca
