If you are like me – your closet is an absolute disaster. I’m talking full blown tornado destruction. It’s a surprise I can even FIND anything. But despite the chaos I seem to always come out alive and in one piece. This past year, I’ve decided to get organized!! {Remember my post about my shoes?} I think I’m old enough for some order and I have to stop living like a teenager. It’s not ok to have purses thrown all around the floor and clothes crumpled up in a ball and then stuffed into a drawer.

Today – I became an adult.

Here’s my quick video about how I plan to upgrade my situation. Each hanger ranged between $4.99 and $8.99.

Do you have any closet organization tips?  Would love to hear them!

Add Dimension With Layers

Posted by Vera On May - 20 - 2010

Here’s a quick and easy tip that everyone can follow. If you are looking to add a little flair to your everyday wear – think about adding some dimension. A tank top paired with a loose shorter shirt will really take your casual wear to the next level. Add a simple string necklace to complete the look. See the difference between the two above shots – the one to the left looks so much put together and all that model did was add another shirt to the look.

Do this with anything you wear. I am woman who LIVES in layers. It’s also a great tip to hid trouble areas. The above pieces are available on Need Supply – a great new find that I just had to share.

Philip Bloch_Headshot

Phillip Bloch knows a thing or two about style.

Widely considered to be Hollywood’s premier fashion stylist, Phillip has become one of the world’s most well-known fashion figures. His roster of clients includes Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, Kate Winslet, Oprah, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, Christie Brinkley, Jennifer Anniston, Mariah Carey, Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, Michael Jackson…to name a few!

This season, he’s offering some tricks of the trade on how to achieve a golden glow and look your best this summer!

1. Glisten With Gold

I always say that accessories are like the GPS of fashion – the item you pick gives your outfit a direction. One of my favorite fashion accessories is retro-inspired gold jewelry. Currently gold baubles are très chic. So I encourage my clients to incorporate them into their wardrobe. Jewelry is incredible because it can transform the simplest of ensembles into something fabulous. A simple daytime outfit like a white t-shirt and jeans can instantly be out-to-dinner ready with the right gold accessories. Especially this season, try a statement necklace or pair of earrings – the bigger and the bolder, the more beautiful.

2. Skin is In

Don’t be afraid to show some skin! When done the right way, skin can be very sophisticated and sexy. Women should be proud of their shoulders, backs and legs. Soft, moisturized skin looks beautiful on every woman. Taking care of your skin with a daily moisturizer like Keri Lotion, which is celebrating its 50th “golden” anniversary this year, provides continuous moisturization and will help ensure long-lasting beauty.

3. Mix It Up

People are being more conservative with their spending today, especially when it comes to fashion. So, I always encourage women who are looking to replicate the coveted celebrity looks from the red carpet to follow the high and low trend. Pair a wardrobe staple from your favorite store (aka: your own closet!) like a simple classic blazer with an affordable trendy piece from H&M, Target, or any other fast fashion outpost and then (for a little extra fashion “fabulosity”) throw in a designer bag! Knowing how to mix things up is what makes fashion fun and lets others see your own personal sense of style!

4. Stand Up

As a stylist and frequent TV fashion correspondent on the red carpet, I am constantly preparing my clients and coaching viewers around the world how to look picture perfect (even if you’re not necessarily stepping out in front of the cameras). My first and most important piece of advice is to stand tall and keep your shoulders back (Mom was right!). This seemingly tiny tip will make all the difference in the world. It will help your clothes fit and look better, and it will help ensure that you look your best from every angle.

5. Be Memorable

I am always impressed when I see vintage accessories on the red carpet because they are unique and often fabulously dramatic. Before making a statement with a beaded vintage purse, a bold piece of jewelry, or fashion’s most ubiquitous accessory these last few seasons — a belt to give you that ‘50’s inspired waistline, I remind my clients to make sure their skin is ready for its close up Try a lotion like Keri®, a trusted brand that has helped provide effective moisturization for generations and is celebrating its 50th “golden” anniversary this year. This really should be the first “accessory” women put on in the morning to keep their skin looking its best from morning until night. Like vintage accessories, luminous glowing skin is a fashion classic that will never go out of style.

Ode To The Small Cutting Board

Posted by Vera On May - 17 - 2010

Last night I was making a salad for my husband and I didn’t have my larger chopping board available because it was already in the dish washer. Luckily, I also own a smaller version which I grabbed out of the drawer. While I was chopping away, I wondered why I just didn’t automatically go for the smaller option to begin with. I mean, how much cutting board do you really need when you are dealing with one small vegetable?

That’s when it hit me – the need to share this little tidbit of information. Do you own a smaller cutting board? If not, I think you need to invest in one. There’s so much LESS to wash when you use the mini-version and odds are you’d be able to fit it anywhere in your dishwasher – unlike the standard size.

This orange one is from Crate and Barrel. Do you own a variety of cutting boards?
