I was a bit apprehensive about watching ‘Oz The Great and Powerful‘ with the kids because I thought that some scenes would be too scary for them. This is why we didn’t go to the theatre to watch the movie when it hit the big screen. Well, I am happy to say – this was NOT THE CASE! My 5 year old and my 7 year old were GLUED to the television the entire time the movie was on and no one requested for a channel change.

So excited because I am SUCH A FAN of ‘The Wizard of Oz‘. In fact – it’s one of my mom’s favorite stories to tell about my childhood. I used to come home from school and watch that movie every day. I think I clocked about 500 views in my lifetime!! I had very, very high hopes for ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ and I wasn’t disappointed.

The movie follows the same FEEL as ‘The Wizard of Oz’. We start off black and white and in Kansas. James Franco plays a small time magician doing the carnival route.  After attempting to steal one too many girlfriends, Oz finds himself fleeing his carnival trailer and ending up in a wicked storm that eventually crashes him straight into Oz.

Loved how this story also had its roots in Kansas and loved how the hero also makes his entrance with a tornado. It felt like it was tying in the two story lines!

I don’t want to give too much away – but Oz finds himself dead smack in the middle of a sisterly feud between the Witches.

Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams HOLD THEIR OWN in this film AND we even get a sneak peek at how the Wicked Witch of the West came to be. Everyone has a backstory, right?!

In the end, I’m always looking for movies that BOTH my children and I will enjoy. THIS IS IT! You won’t be disappointed with Oz The Great and Powerful.
