Easy Ways You Can Take Part In ‘Every Kid Healthy Week’ #gogosqueeZ #everykidhealthyweek

Have you heard of Every Kid Healthy Week? It’s an initiative to teach lifelong healthy habits to families across the country through a series of school grants and in-school activities. But more about that in a minute.

We are an active family that constantly focuses on ensuring we make the right choices for our children – whether that means working on balanced menus or getting in enough outside time as a group. Always have been and always will be. It’s just something that comes naturally to us. And thank goodness for it!

Every Kid Healthy Week

I think these lessons are probably the most important ones that we teach our children. The takeaways that will forever mold their lives and enrich them for years to come.

That’s why, it’s such a pleasure for me to see  the kids come home from school and  immediately grab their scooters to hit the pavement. As a parent, it’s such a pleasure to watch.

I’m an only child, so I didn’t have that sort of family upbringing. Sure, I had plenty of friends on my block in NYC… but nothing beats riding alongside your brother and sister. At least… as far as I can tell. 🙂

What Is Every Kid Healthy Week?

Regardless of who you choose to play with, my husband and I firmly believe that it’s important to keep our kids playing and learning about how to feed their bodies right. That’s why, when I got wind of ‘Every Kid Healthy Week’, I just knew I wanted to learn more about it.

It sounded like an activation I could get behind! It’s spearheaded by Action for Healthy Kids –  a nonprofit that brings nutrition and physical activity programs to more than 29,000 schools and millions of students across America. They teach lifelong healthy habits to families across the country through a series of school grants and in-school activities.

I checked online and found that several schools in NYC and Long Island have already received these grants. How amazing!!

Huntington State, Stimson Middle School
Rego Park, Lynn Gross Discovery School
New York, Paula Hedbavny School
Wyandanch, Milton L Olive Middle School
Brooklyn, PS 6
Brooklyn, Teaching Firms Professional Prep School
Bronx, PS 11 Highbridge School
Brooklyn, PS 7 Abraham Lincoln School
New York, PS 18 Park Terrace

Over the next three years, GoGo squeeZ will further its mission to make families happier and healthier and to bring goodness to kids and communities by supporting Action for Healthy Kids.

GoGo squeeZ has signed up as their national sponsor and plans on supporting 250 schools starting this year, with grant funding totaling $750,000 over three years to implement healthy snacking activities and nutrition education programs.

I always love to read about companies who truly stand behind what they preach. That’s why I am so proud to say that I’ve been teaming up with GoGo squeeZ in a variety of ways for the last several years.

Whether I showed you how to make a fun Valentine’s crafts using their pouches, or hit the streets of NYC to help them support race runners during their Summer Street Fair, I’ve been there cheering along!!

In honor of Every Kid Healthy Week (the 5th annual nationwide celebration of the program), I have a few easy tips to share with you.

Ways To Get Your Family Moving Together for ‘Every Kid Healthy Week’

Get your kids moving

Get Family Scooters. No seriously. We’ve done this and it is amazing. The children LOVE TO GO OUT RIDING TOGETHER!

kids playing soccer and being active outside
at school gym

Grab a ball! Soccer is LIFE here in the Sweeney household. Whether our kids are taking part in a clinic or kicking around the ball with us at home, we make sure to hit the dirt every afternoon whenever the weather permits.

fitness trackers

Get fitness trackers and compete against one another. Same team? Or full blown competition? Up to you! I will tell you right now that my husband likes to win which really pushes the rest of us over the edge.

5k run with a family

Sign up for local races – the messier the better!!! We love the Color Vibe and make sure to run it every single year!

canoeing with kids

If you live by parks and lakes, take advantage of them  – and often. As someone who was raised in NYC, I truly embrace these quiet moments with Mother Nature. So thankful that I get to experience these special times with my children. I mean… a canoe! 🙂

When all else fails, take them to the park or find a local slide and let them have at it! Relay races and tag are both the BEST. Moms and dads should jump in on the fun, too. I know we like to document… but it’s more important to participate!

Sign up with groupon

Sign up for Groupon or another local deal site and learn something new …but together! We are literally ALWAYS up for a new adventure. Even if that means that we will get a little wet. 🙂

exercising as a family

When you decide to stretch at home, do it with your kids. Get them involved with everything that you do! Exercise and well-being should be something that is embraced by all in the household.

Every Kid Healthy

Even a day outside creating chalk art is a day well spent. Truly! The messier the kids get – the better!

We are really working at keeping our 3 sons active. I think with so much tech that it has become even more important to keep our kids moving when we can!

Getting a fitness tracker has been on my wishlist for way too long. I'm sure by the time I get one, everybody else will have already moved on.

We're lucky enough to live in a year round playground in Northern Michigan, so we have NO trouble getting the kids outside to play. We established healthy eating in them early so they think nothing of it - in fact, they occasionally get on me because I still drink too much pop.

Those are great ideas for the whole family to be active and have fun at the same time. Soccer is keeping my son busy, but he's planning to go to the gym too.
